Model behaviour at The Met Bar

Jeremy Healey and Patsy Kensit at the Met BarHaving caught our breath from last nights model behaviour, we can report on the launch party for Leni’s Model Management (previously Quintessentially Models), which took place at the Met Bar, naturally!

Added Dimension Events created a live installation where guests were treated to an unseen behind the scenes peak at the backstage of a catwalk show. On this hot summer evening, it was only befitting that the models stepped into the Met Bar sporting only this season’s sexiest lingerie. First stop was hair by Brooks & Brooks and make-up by Jemma Kidd. Then, after their first sashay on the runway, they were styled by Clare Watson from new style concierge service Miss Dress, in bright ethereal dresses by Orion, before taking to the podium for their final shot, drawing attention from all in the room.

Meanwhile, guests including Hugh Grant (and his mystery blonde model friend “Cynthia”), Danni Minogue, Terri Seymour, Jeremy Healy and Patsy Kensit sipped on ‘Luscious Leni’ cocktails created by the fabulous Met Bar Mixologist’s and gorged on low-fat cupcakes. As DJ Jeremy Healey’s electro-punk disco tracks filled the air, the party spilled onto Park Lane with Holly Willoughby and Chloe Madeley delaying their Nobu reservations to join in the fun!

As the party came to a close around midnight, guests were last seen clutching their bulging goody bags filled with sweet treats made by James Middleton’s (Kate’s brother nonetheless) very own hands, and beauty products galore (um Jamie – where was mine?!).

Red or Dead founder Wayne Hemingway was joined by Mayor Boris Johnson to launch a pop-up shop outside City Hall today.

The KiosKiosk stall offers rent-free retail space for budding designers. Over the coming weeks, you’ll be able to buy clothes, jewellery, bags, furniture, ceramics and more.

So head over to More London between now and 3 September to pick up an original piece by an up-and-coming designer. As Wayne says, “you’ll find some good stuff there that you won’t find in Next and Monsoon!”

In the Swim at Hampstead Heath

Parliament Hill Lido. Photo by Ruth Corney

There’s a secret world of fitness happening in London each morning. While the rest of us are creaking awake with coffee and trying to convince ourselves to have muesli and yoghurt instead of toast with honey (or even the full English), plenty of people are out peddling, paddling, pumping iron or pounding the pavement.

This morning I joined them.

Impressing even myself by rolling out of bed at 6.30am, I fronted up to the Parliament Hill lido (or Hampstead Heath lido, as it’s also known) just as it was opening at 7am. It’s an outdoor pool but fear of the cold did not deter me, and nor should it have, with water a balmy 22 degrees – exactly the same temperature as the morning air.

Between 7 and 7.30 you swim widths (27m) across the pool, which seemed odd at first but was actually quite pleasant, especially in my “flabulous” state of body. Swimmers switch to lengths (60m) from 7.30-9am, when the morning session ends.

The pool was full but not crowded with the usual assortment of young and old, fit and not-so – all sharing the joy of warm weather and wonderful water. They rely on a system of politeness rather than using lane markers and it all went swimmingly, if you’ll excuse the pun.

On my way out, I heard two regulars grumbling good-naturedly about how the recent heatwave meant the pool was far busier than usual and that they hoped a thunderstorm might drive some of us Jane-come-latelys away. I can see how they’d want to keep something so good all to themselves. But I’ll be back.
