An Awsum show featuring the great ‘Dynamo’

JA showSix months ago when Met Bar loyalist, Jonny Awsum, announced that his dream was to become a TV presenter, we first congratulated him on the marvelous idea to publicise the quick-wit and quite simply rather strange sense of humour we had come to love, but we knew that his first appearance had to be on a stage here!

On Wednesday night Episode 5 of The Jonny Awsum Show took place with its winning formula of anarchic comedy, celebrity guests, live music and the infamous Rock & Roll raffle. ‘RE-DRAW!’ – Sorry, you just had to be there on the night! Think Jonathan Ross meets Generation Game meets School Panto BUT on acid! It is a spectacle that can only be truly appreciated by all those who have witnessed a show first-hand.

Wednesday night was electric with guests including outstanding British magician, Dynamo, whose celebrity followers include David Beckham, Kings of Leon and Jay-Z (we are all still baffled by his crazy mobile phone disappearing, and re-appearing in a glass water bottle trick!) plus live music from Beans on Toast, and singer-songwriter Jersey Budd. Best-selling author Suzanne Portnoy also popped in for a second appearance with a sneak preview from her new erotic memoirs.

Jonny is taking August off due to a bi-annual trip to L.A to meet with his psychedelic track-suit outfitters, and catch up with his Hollywood celebrity pals. He will be returning to the stage on Wednesday 16th September, holiday photos and all! For now, “Goodbye from the Jonny Awsum show….”

iTunes Festival: Graham Coxon and Esser

Graham Coxon at The Roundhouse

Hooray for the iTunes Live London Festival, which has been brightening up the summer with a whole month of free gigs. The festival is now in its third year, and has managed to outdo itself with the line-up, which includes Placebo, Kasabian, Bat for Lashes and Block Party.

It’s even generated a few headlines after Liam Gallagher was rumoured to have stormed off stage earlier this week!

I couldn’t wait to see Graham Coxon take his turn on the Roundhouse stage, no doubt getting us all dancing to Freakin’ Out, especially after Blur’s amazing performance at Glastonbury last month.

However, Coxon stuck to new material, playing his concept album The Spinning Top in its entirety (bar one song). And sadly, I didn’t actually see him, as he sat down for most of the gig, putting him out off eyeshot for us short people!

But I did get to have a bit of dance thanks to indie-electro star Esser who was supporting Coxon. His singles Satisfied and Headlock were  particular highlights.

Even though I didn’t hear my favourite Graham Coxon tunes, I’d still thoroughly recommend the  iTunes Festival.  You don’t often see big name acts for free and the Roundhouse is a great venue.
