We couldn’t let the weekend pass without sharing with you this fantastic shot from our flickrpool of the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship London by dodsworld.

The warm-up weekend turned out to be a fantastic success. Three major sporting events took place in the capital on Saturday, and with just over three years to go until the start of the London Olympic Games, all eyes were on London.

Sports fans were spoilt for choice between:

  1. The modern pentathlon’s World Championships in Crystal Palace
  2. The triathlon’s World Series in Hyde Park
  3. Basketball’s Game On tournament at The O2 Arena in Greenwich

If you were lucky enough to see any of the events, please let us know what you thought in the comments below.

If you’re looking fora great write-up of the whole weekend, we recommend you take a look at Ollie William’s blog on the Warm Up Weekend for the BBC.

What a great weekend and even the weather put on a show…

Amazing to see GB triathletes take advantage of home field advantage with both Helen Jenkins and Alistair Brownlee loving the fact that they finished on the podium (Bronze and Gold respectively). Alistair Brownlee was imperious and is lining up to be a favourite for gold in 2012 for sure. There were wins for GB Para-Triatheltes too.

Then it was the turn of me and 1,000 other amateurs to compete in the Olympic venue and enjoy the moment of glory running down the blue carpet finish past the (slightly emptier) grandstands! I’m never going to be competing in 2012 but it set the heart pumping a little faster (than it already was after over an hour’s exertions) dreaming I was sprinting for gold!

The GB Basketball players and Modern Pentathletes weren’t quite as successful but it was good to get close to the action in both of those sports too. Even though GB didn’t win I managed to see a world record “trampoline slam dunk” at the O2 on Friday night! I’m now an expert at the finer arts of Modern Pentathlon too.

Hopefully the start of the 2012 build up so bring on more major events in the city and more GB success!
