Photo of the Week: The Grotto at Marble Hill House

Please note this blog is no longer active. This post was last updated 6 years, 8 months ago and may contain out of date prices, opening times, links and information. Go to www.visitlondon.com for the lastest visitor information for London.

This week’s photo from the Visit London Flickr Pool features the grotto at Marble Hill House.

You can go and see the grotto any time you like, but if you fancy a facinating guided tour which also includes the ice house and the entire grounds, you’ll need to book at least two weeks in advance, so start planning your trip now! www.english-heritage.org.uk.

(Twickehnam is clearly grotto potty, there’s also Alexander Pope’s Grotto nearby!)

The ice house here is an amazing creation. They used to carry ice from the frozen river Thames up to the house then keep it in a double sealed layered between straw. Genius.
