I thoroughly enjoyed my first ever Notting Hill Carnival. Highlights for me were the yummy food (esp plantains) and the fab sound stages. Norman Jay, Mayhem Crew and Sancho Panza were the best!

Notting Hill is all about the food for me. So much of it and so cheap! This year’s find was a spinach curry. You have to make a bit more effort to find veggie food there but its worth it when you do.

I though that the Mayhem Crew were ace!

  4. Claire Doble says:

Avoided it but found the newly opened East London line was surprisingly empty!

Every year I play at Notting Hill Carnival with Maracatu Estrela do Norte (an London-based Afro-Brazilian drumming group) and this year was as amazing as ever. Six hours of drumming was pretty knackering but the crowd, jerk chicken and occasional bursts of sunshine kept us going.

While there were loads of people, I thought it was quieter than usual – which was a bonus for getting home and through the crowds. There were loads of police but they were pretty cool about standing back and just letting everyone get on with enjoying themselves – and of course posing for the obligatory “me with a policeman at carnival” photo!

And as usual the vibe was great: really friendly, welcoming and crazy. Long live carnival!
