Giant Octopus Comes to Trafalgar Square

A giant mechanical octopus arrived in Trafalgar Square today to help launch the London Design Festival. Named Outrace, the octopus is made from eight robotic arms on loan from Audi’s manufacturing line.

The installation was being tested today by its designers Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram, in advance of an official switch on by Culture Minister Ed Vaizey tonight.

After dark, the arms will write 3D light messages in the air – and you can tell it what to write by sending your messages via www.outrace.org.
