Jenny and I enjoyed a tasty, healthy and – best of all – cheap lunch at Innocent’s pop-up cafe in Shoreditch today.

Housed in the historic Tramshed building, the café is decorated with growing lettuces, tomatoes, herbs and strings of fairy lights. For just £5, you can enjoy two nutritious courses, providing your five a day in one meal.

From today’s menu, we tried the beetroot and horseradish pierogi, tomato toasts, root vegetables with goat’s curd, and sweet potato brik. All were delicious. We didn’t have time for dessert, but our neighbours’ spiced fruit sorbet and rice pudding brûlée looked amazing.

If you’re inspired to make your own healthy food when you get home, you can pick up a free pack of recipe cards as you leave. The café was packed today and places are filling up fast, so book now if you want to try it for yourself.

Innocent Café is in Shoreditch until 8 October 2010. If you’re a London foodie, don’t miss London Restaurant Festival, which kicks off on Monday – book your Festival Menus now!
