In the last six months to a year, a new chef has taken over at Bella Vista - http://www.bellavistarestaurant.co.uk/ - in Blackheath and the restaurant is turning out the best food to be had anywhere in the village - considering the proximity of the Everest Inn and Buenos Aires Cafe that's not to be sneered at. The pan fried liver is always delicious, as is their fritto misto. Leave enough room for pineapple carpaccio with homemade coconut ice cream.

My absolute favourite is Il Bordello on Wapping High Street. I used to live in Italy for about a year, and as a dining experience the Brothel of Wapping comes impressively close to restaurants I tried back there. Great food in a pleasant, rather homely atmosphere.
