Crazy for You was a huge success at the Open Air Theatre earlier this year. It’s now transferred to a warmer home in the West End, at the beautiful Novello Theatre in Aldwych.
I was lucky enough to see the show the other day, and I absolutely loved it! The cast is incredible, showing amazing energy and skill both in maintaining such athletic precision in those long dance numbers, and creating sumptuous vocal harmonies throughout. Once again, Stephen Mear’s choreography (he worked on Hello, Dolly! too) shows real flair and wit, as does Timothy Sheader’s direction. The production is also a real treat, with wonderful sets and gorgeous costumes. Ladies, if you don’t leave hankering after a pair of t-bar shoes and wanting to match your gloves to your belt and hat, I’m not sure you’ve seen the same show as me!
I asked a few other theatre-goers what they thought of the show:
James, 32, Wimbledon
I loved it. Great to see a British cast showing that it can razzle dazzle as well as any on Broadway. It was several high-kicks above the original West End production.
Jo, mid-30s, Blackheath
It took me a while to be won over by the in-your-face nature of the show – and its very American accents. However, I was soon swept up by the sheer joy of the thing. Who could ask for anything more!
Jean, grandmother of two, Bristol
All singing and dancing, this show is packed with familiar songs. The cast is incredibly proficient. I was exhausted just watching!
Frances, 69, London
It made me feel nostalgic, I had seen Crazy For You when it was last in London in the early 1990s. The dancing and singing were amazing. I loved it!
Madelene, 38, North London
Whatever mood you arrive to the theatre, you can guarantee that this show will bring a smile to your face by the time you leave.
