This weekend sees a couple of unique London events at which you can help a good cause by having fun – what could be better? There are also a couple of great art events, plus a chance to party Cymru style on St David’s Day.

Tiger Tracks at St Pancras International

Head to St Pancras International Station for the ‘world’s biggest tiger event‘, which aims to highlight the plight of the endangered wild tiger. Inside the magnificent station you’ll find tiger-themed activities, music and entertainment, as well as a special photographic exhibition. The station’s shops and eateries will also be getting involved, and you can find out more about the festival’s special events on the Save Wild Tigers website. 1-21 Mar

St David’s Day, various venues

You might see people wearing a daffodil or leek in celebration of Welsh national pride, and there are lots of fun events in London at which you can join in with the festivities. Check out the St David’s Day Dinner at Guildhall, the fantastic London Welsh Male Voice Choir in Dartford (2 Mar) or a medley of Welsh entertainment at Loose Cannon in the City. 1 Mar

I’ve been eagerly waiting for Glamour of the Gods to open at the National Portrait Gallery since I first heard about it. I went along for a preview and was not disappointed.

This exquisite collection of over 70 portraits celebrates the golden Hollywood era and the Hollywood stars that captivated the world between the 1920s and the 1960s and beyond.

They were part of the infamous star system that large film studios like MGM had in place and their images were strictly controlled by these studios.

Image was of the upmost importance and the portraits convey the fascination and god-like appeal of these stars. It is perhaps because of these images that they became such celebrated stars.

There are many included such as Clark Gable, Marlene Dietrich, James Dean and Audrey Hepburn to name just a few. The collection is immense and fabulous.

I especially loved the portraits of Ava Gardner, Grace Kelly and James Stewart, having never seen them before. It’s amazing to think that there are still unseen images of these icons and the beautiful vintage prints will surprise many.

It is a truly incredible collection which shows the importance of the photographer in the making of these stars resulting in images which forever capture the elegance and glamour of its day.
