Cilla Black Unveils New Brian Epstein Plaque in Seven Dials

I popped down to Seven Dials this morning to see the unveiling of a new plaque to Brian Epstein, the legendary music manager from the 1960s.

As well as managing The Beatles and Gerry and the Pacemakers from 13 Monmouth Street from around 1963, Brian also guided Cilla Black to stardom.

And Cilla was up bright and early this morning to reveal the blue heritage plaque honouring Brian Epstein and his work.

The former Blinde Date presenter described Brian: “He was a great man, the man that I knew – a true gentleman.

“He believed in me and I certainly believed in him. If he’d said ‘you can climb Mount Everest’, I would have said ‘where’s my backpack? I’m off’. I really would, because I believed in him.”

“I wrote to Paul McCartney a couple of years ago because I think Brian should be honoured in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in America. That’s what I want,” she added.

The plaque has been installed by the Seven Dials Trust, which aims to protect and enhance the conservation area. It’s the first of a series of People’s Plaques that are going to be introduced to the area.
