Visit London Blog » brixton academy Enjoy the very best of London Mon, 21 Apr 2014 08:30:04 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Elephant Café in Brixton Village Market Thu, 14 Jul 2011 10:52:32 +0000 I regularly go to gigs in London and I always have the same dilemma: where to eat beforehand?

On this occasion I was heading to The O2 Brixton Academy. I don’t know the area, and most of the places near the venue seemed to be the usual fast food suspects.

So imagine my surprise when I discovered Brixton Village. Set in the market, there are food outlets offering a variety of cuisines to fulfil the most discerning palate and, best of all, some of the cafés even allow you to bring your own alcohol.

On this occasion I visited Elephant Café, which serves authentic Pakistani street food. I choose the Thali, which was really flavoursome and fabulous value for money.

The staff were attentive and provided friendly service, to the degree that you felt that you were visiting their home. I am now just waiting for the next gig in this area so I can return.

There are so many brilliant gigs coming up in London this year, it was hard to narrow it down to just five. But here are a few I think will be extra-special:

  • Pulp at Wireless – Return to the 90s for a few hours! Pulp’s eagerly anticipated reunion gigs include a headlining slot at Wireless in Hyde Park. 3 Jul
  • Take That – Robbie’s back and they’re heading to Wembley Stadium. Congratulations if you managed to get tickets. 30 Jun, 1-2, 4-5, 6, 8-9 Jul
  • The Wall Live – See the classic Pink Floyd album performed in its entirety by Roger Waters and his handpicked band at what promises to be an epic gig. 11, 12, 14-15, 17-18 May
  • Glee Live! In Concert – As a team full of Gleeks, we can’t wait to see the cast here in London. 25-26, 28-29 Jun
  • The Vaccines – This indie quartet made the BBC’s “Sound of 2011″ list. See what all the hype’s about at the Brixton Academy. 19 Feb

London Music News: The Festivals Are Coming! Tue, 08 Dec 2009 12:00:37 +0000 LoveboxThis week we’re getting excited as news of London’s summer festivals hits our inboxes.

Yesterday it was announced that the mighty Pearl Jam will headline Hard Rock Calling in June.

And today, there was a double whammy of good news for Lovebox fans – not only will it be headlined by Dizzee Rascal and Chase and Status, but the August shindig will be a whole day longer next year, becoming a three-day festival.

Plus, Wireless will be back in 2010, headlined by P!nk and The Ting Tings.

We’re also dusting off our air guitars for a brand new rock festival in Victoria Park. High Voltage has already secured ZZ Top and Emerson, Lake and Palmer as headliners – and we hear there’ll be three stages of classic rock, progressive rock and metal.

Sadly summer’s still a way off, so here are a few (closer) music dates for your diary:

The biggest indie acts of the last 12 months will be turning up to the Shockwaves NME Awards at one of our favourite venues – O2 Academy Brixton on 24 February. And the pre-awards tour includes gigs from Simian Mobile Disco and New Young Pony Club in London.

Plus, the Kerrang! Relentless Energy Tour 2010 is promising to rock the Roundhouse, with acts including All Time Low, The Blackout and Young Guns, on 5 and 6 February.

We also can’t wait for the Camden Crawl in May, although no one will tell us who’s playing just yet!
