Dubstep star Katy B switched on Camden Town’s Christmas lights yesterday, alongside Camden’s Mayor, Councillor Jonathan Simpson.

Camden High Road was closed for the first time during the day for a Christmas street party where Katy B performed her appropriately-titled new single Lights On.

Comedienne Amy Lamé assisted with the big switch on and other music acts performed throughout the day including Victoria and Jacob, Goodluck Jonathan, Oh! Gunquit! , Rum Shebeen and Ilia Darlin.

McFly put on pilot uniforms last night for the official switch-on of the Christmas lights at Heathrow airport.

The boys then surprised staff and passengers with a secret gig: possibly the first ever to be performed in an airport.

Heathrow is the world’s busiest international airport, and McFly performed to a crowd of hundreds in Terminal 5 International Arrivals.

After switching on the lights, McFly serenaded passengers and staff with hits such as Party Girl and Shine a Light from their new album, Above the Noise, as well as old favourites, All About You and Star Girl.

The Heathrow Airport Christmas lights will remain on for the whole of the festive season. During that time, three million passengers are expected to fly through Heathrow. Nearly half a million will pass through the airport between Sunday 19 December and Friday 24 December alone.

Passenger John Casey said: “I just touched down from a 10 hour flight and couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw McFly performing.  I’m a huge fan and have always wanted to see them live so this is better than any Christmas present.”

Malcolm Robertson of Heathrow said: “We’re delighted that McFly decided to join us for the official Christmas switch-on to mark the start of the holiday season.  Heathrow doesn’t stop for Christmas, but that doesn’t mean we can’t bring the Christmas spirit to our passengers and staff.”

Daybreak presenter Christine Bleakley launched Covent Garden‘s Christmas lights last night with a cheeky kiss under the mistletoe.

This year, Covent Garden have opted for a giant, interactive Christmas tree which is switched on by human touch.

Competition winner Tariq Fontenelle bid £300 for the all-important kiss from Christine Bleakley, which switched on the tree for the first time.

For just £1 you can light up the tree yourself by puckering up with the one you love. All proceeds go to The Princes’ Trust.

If you’re in Covent Garden you can also take advantage of a love-inspired foodie Christmas market every Thursday night, reindeer petting on Saturdays and late night shopping with a 20% discount on 2 December.

Did you go to Regent Street last night to see the Christmas lights being switched on? We put on our mittens and went along to hear music from Joe McElderry and the cast of Jersey Boys, and a special appearance by cast members of the new film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. At one point there was a little flurry of snow, but we’re not sure if it was real, fake, or we imagined it!
