Wear Your Shirt To Work Day will be celebrated all over the country and is supported by the Mayor of London and Visit London.

The date marks 100 days to go until we find out if England’s bid to host the World Cup in 2018 has been successful. If it is, London will be one of the 12 host cities, with matches played at four London stadiums.

The host country will be announced on 2 December 2010.

Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, said:

“The boys might not have brought the World Cup home this summer but we’re right on track to bring the tournament here in 2018. In 100 days’ time we could all be World Cup winners and surely nowhere in the world could host a better World Cup Final than our great capital. So whoever you support I’m urging you to get your kit on and back the bid.”

England’s 2018 Football World Cup bid is in good hands according to former England International Dion Dublin, and he believes London is the rightful focal point of the bid.

Speaking at the Launch of the npower Football League at London’s npower arms on Tuesday night, Dublin told Visit London:

“Where’s a better place than London to have the Olympics and the World Cup? We’ve got everything you would need here; the stadiums, the transport system, everything’s set-up ready to go. They’ll tweak it and make it even better – this is the place to have it.”

The former Manchester United player added:

“They’ve got a great team led by my old friend David Beckham who I was with at [Manchester] United. If anybody can get it done, David Beckham can.”

It is set to be an exciting decade for sport in London with the Olympic Games in 2012 followed by the possible 2018 World Cup. Dublin believes hosting the 2012 Olympics can only benefit the chances of England’s 2018 World Cup bid.

“If you’ve done something you’ll know how to do it better next time,” he said. “So let’s keep our fingers crossed and hopefully it will work out for us – it will be a great place to have it.”

Dublin has been keeping a close eye on England’s current World Cup matches and he believes The Three Lions have a great chance of lifting the trophy for the second time.

World Cup Willie, the mascot from the 1966 World Cup, has been reincarnated.

And what’s more, he paid a visit to VL Towers this morning!

The cuddly mascot is travelling around London today to promote the magnificent Wembley Stadium tour.

During the 90-minute tour, you’ll have the chance to be snapped with a replica of the FA Cup, climb the steps to the Royal Box and see unique objects from English Football’s history.

While the World Cup is on you’ll also have the opportunity to grab a photo with the famous Jules Rimet World Cup trophy. There’s also a chance to meet World Cup Willie yourself on the tour every Friday throughout the summer holidays.

The England 2018 World Cup bid is currently being considered by FIFA with a decision expected in December… But who could deny a cute lion?
