Muse confirmed their tag as one of the world’s best live bands last weekend with two sell-out gigs at London’s Wembley Stadium – and I was lucky enough to be among the 90,000 crowd.

The boys from Devon rocked the foundations of the iconic stadium in two breathtaking shows on Friday and Saturday, which included a floating UFO, a spaceship set and cannons firing streamers.

For British rock bands, it can’t get much better than playing at Wembley Stadium, where the likes of Queen and U2 have played defining gigs. But while some flounder, Muse have shown once more that they are worthy of being named in the same breath as arguably two of the greatest bands the British Isles have ever produced.

The first time I saw Muse was also at Wembley in 2007, but while that performance was incredible, this went one step further showing more maturity and a better use of their repertoire – strengthened further by their chart-topping album The Resistance.

Along with their ability to produce awe-inspiring shows, one of Muse’s greatest assets is the trio’s ability to mix styles and switch effortlessly between ballads such as Soldier’s Poem and the manic Stockholm Syndrome and Hysteria.

The former led to lighters and mobile phones lighting-up the crowd like a colony of glow worms, while the latter two produced frenzied waves of arms and heads bobbing up and down in the mosh pit.

After rousing performances of Starlight, Plug in Baby and Guiding Light; Matt Bellamy and his band ended with a lengthened version of their hit Knights of Cydonia.

Muse show no signs of slowing down just yet, with rumours of another album surfacing – and Wembley Stadium surely beckons once more?

Muse were supported by a pregnant Lily Allen, who played her last gig before retiring, which also featured a duet with Professor Green. Biffy Clyro supported Muse on Saturday.

The exterior of the club isn’t particularly appealing, a small dingy red shop front. What goes on inside is a lot more exciting. The open interior provides an ideal space for bands to showcase their talent. And with artists such as The Rolling Stones and The Sex Pistols having graced this stage, it’s no wonder it has become one of the most celebrated live music venues in Europe.

I went to see the dynamic trio, Jetson. These three guys (Rohan Unni, Scott Miller and Stu Lunn) all work hard in the city by day, but come together at night to share their passion for music. It’s hard to believe they only formed a year ago – already their sound is confident, with a certainty of style you’d expect from a more mature band.  Jetson describe their music as “a collision of funk and folk”.

A spectacular drum solo from Miller began the set as they launched into a selection of songs, to be recorded later this summer. On the whole I preferred the more upbeat tunes, and they seemed to enjoy performing them more too. Follow me was my favourite. It begins with an infectious bass riff from the charismatic Lunn and continues with a driving force that is impossible to resist.

Jump on the Jetson bandwagon.  Having already played The O2 in their first year who knows where they’ll be in a year’s time?

Everyone’s favourite multi-talented piano-and-everything-else playing jazz/pop singer/songwriter, Jamie Cullum did a spot of busking in Covent Garden last night.

The secret gig, in aid of Crisis, is part of a series of surprise performances by bands and performers such as Athlete, Gabriella Cilmi and The Feeling.

It’s all very hush-hush, but we can reveal Ben’s Brother is playing at some point today, and the mighty Stereophonics will be wowing Covent Garden shoppers sometime on Sunday.
