Team GB’s haul of gold medals at the London 2012 Olympic Games is clearly having an impact across the city.

This mallard at the WWT London Wetland Centre has got in on the action, giving birth to a super-cute golden duckling! A real one-off, the gold-coloured baby has five siblings with more usual markings. London Wetland Centre staff have nicknamed the duckling Jessica in honour of the heptathlon gold medal winner, Jessica Ennis.

We think this addition to the Wetland Centre’s brood is a real winner too!

A brand new wax figure of top Jamaican runner Usain Bolt has just joined the sports zone in Madame Tussauds in London.

The world is waiting to see if the three-times gold medallist Usain can take home more gold during the London 2012 games. This week is the perfect time to visit Madame Tussauds to see the sporting hero striking his famous “to di world” pose.

As well as finding out how you measure up against speedy Bolt, you can also meet wax figures of other great sporting legends including David Beckham, Rafael Nadal, Jessie Owens, Mohammed Ali and Team GB favourites, diver Tom Daley and heptathlete Jessica Ennis.

The schedule for the London 2012 Olympic Games has been released, just one month before tickets go on sale.

The first action of the Games will take place outside London, and before the Opening Ceremony: the women’s football in Cardiff, Glasgow and Coventry on 25 July.

Britain’s first gold medal could go to Mark Cavendish in the men’s cycling road race on the day after the Opening Ceremony, 28 July.

The middle weekend looks like being the most popluar. With possible appearances from Jessica Ennis, Christine Ohuruogu, Paula Radcliffe and Usain Bolt over the 4 and 5 of August, demand for tickets is likely to be high.

Saturday 4 August is being called “Super Saturday” with the results of the heptathlon competition and the women’s 100m final taking prime-time slots. The Olympic rowing and swimming competitions will also reach their climaxes.

The dates, times, venues and prices for more than 600 competition sessions across all 26 Olympic sports are being emailed to the 2.2m people who have signed up for info ahead of tickets going on sale on 15 March.

London 2012 chairman and Double Olympic champion Sebastian Coe described them as the “greatest tickets on earth for the greatest show on earth”.

“We are now getting to the business end of the project and we know from the number of people who have signed up for ticket information that there is a real hunger from all parts of the country to be there.”
