Uncover Chilling Tales at Wyndham’s Theatre

The Weir at Wyndham's TheatreSurely there’s no better time to be told ghostly tales than a dark and blustery winter’s evening. Sitting within an isolated pub on Ireland’s west coast and fuelled by drink, four friends tell eerie stories in order to impress a pretty female newcomer who has a chilling account of her own. Following a sell-out run at the Donmar Warehouse last year, The Weir returns to the London stage for 12 weeks, reuniting its star cast featuring Ardle O’Hanlon, Dervla Kirwan and Brian Cox. 16 Jan-19 Apr.

Marvel at Modern Art

Modern and contemporary art lovers will not want to miss the London Art Fair this weekend. A deluge of displays and discussion, the fair returns for its 26th edition and this time features works by Barbara Hepworth and her contemporaries in conjunction with the Hepworth Wakefield Gallery. Photography fanatics are not forgotten, with a whole day dedicated to the art form. 15-19 Jan.

Get to Grips With a Shakespearian Tragedy

If you’ve always wanted to tick Shakespeare’s dark tragedy King Lear off your to-do list, now’s the perfect time. The elderly and egotistical title character, who divides his kingdom between his daughters based on their praise of him, is expertly executed by acclaimed actor Simon Russell Beale. The show is overseen by award-winning director Sam Mendes who gained worldwide recognition for his stellar direction of James Bond’s Skyfall. 14 Jan-25 Mar.
