Pop into St Christopher’s Place this weekend, and you’ll be lucky enough to see this fantastic floral shoe sculpture.

It’s a replica of the skyscraper heels that Lady Gaga bought from Lungta de Fancy, who have a boutique in St Christopher’s Place.

The shoe has been lowered into the square to mark the start of “The Season” – a week of special events in the gorgeous boutiquey shopping streets in the space behind Oxford Street. There’ll be new store launches, late night openings, special offers, makeovers, champagne and sweet treats for shoppers to enjoy.

Make sure you’re there: The Season runs from 27 May to 3 June

You’ll see work by well-known names such as Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto and Comme des Garçons, as well as some of Japan’s most adventurous up-and-coming designers. I went along this morning for a sneak preview.

The outfits on show range from minimalist black-and-white smocks, to intricate origami dresses, and stunning clothes made from bright red, seamless tubing.

While some of the creations are totally wearable, others could only be worn by the likes of Lady Gaga. Eating, sitting down or going to the loo in some of the more elaborate clothes would be out of the question.

One outfit had a built-in parasol, one had a face-covering black mask, one featured a huge cushioned bustle, and one consisted of head-to-toe tartan (including a stuffed tartan elephant in place of the sporran).

I’m not sure how much of this will end up on the high street, but the designers’ creativity and skill is impressive and the show is definitely worth a visit.

From the first glimpse of the high-hatted, high-shouldered, high-heeled silhouette and for the full two- hour gig audience members were elevated to the status of angelic monsters.

There’s a real skill in a performer that can connect not only herself with the audience but the audience with itself. Monster hits Just Dance, Poker Face, Lovegame, Telephone and Paparazzi had the full house of 23,000 people on their feet, hands in the air and screaming like beautiful banshees.

There was so much going on – brilliant lighting effects, quirky characters, hilarious quips, flirtations, ridiculous costumes… hang-on, let’s just pause there: Lady Gaga wore a red rubber cape nearly double the size of her body; a bra and knickers set that shot fireworks; a massive white fairy costume with moving wings. She wielded oversized props including a sceptre that turned into a torch for spying on the audience and climbed scaffolding after fixing a car engine in a silver bodysuit. This was pop-art brought to the stage.

In one of the few quieter moments she made her affection for us known. Seated at a piano engulfed in flames she gushed: “no other popstar will love you as much as I love you. I just… I just… I just wanna eat you (she pauses for giggles) do you want me to eat you?”. “YES!! EAT US!! AAHHH”, we screamed (not an exact audience quote but you get the gist).

The vocals throughout were crystal clear. The O2 has such superb sound capabilities that it’s really no surprise at all this is now the world’s most popular music venue. It’s as if you were wearing earphones. If you haven’t already experienced a concert at The O2 you seriously should. Staff were friendly, service was fast, the place was clean, tidy, easy to enter and exit and most importantly the focus was 100% on the music.

Lady Gaga is playing London again at The O2 on 16 and 17 December.

Don’t miss it.

The arrival of tickets to the Jingle Bell Ball at VL Towers sparked excited discussion about our gone-but-not-forgotten teenage years.

Back then, the pop event of the year wasn’t the Jingle Bell Ball but the Smash Hits Poll Winner’s Party. None of us had a parent or older sibling cool enough willing to take us, and the disappointment has clearly never gone away.

So, even though I’m probably too old, I took the teenage girl in me to the Jingle Bell Ball on Saturday night, for the night of live pop she never had!

The singing, dancing and energy were amazing – and that was just from the crowd. “They must all be really drunk,” I mused as I slurped my beer, then realised it was the pure power of hormones.

We tried to resist the atmosphere, growling at Pixie Lott’s youth and talent. But soon we were singing along to her hit, Boys And Girls. As the night went on, I was screaming as much as anyone for JLS to rip off their vests, and swaying to their cover of Rihanna’s Umbrella.

Each artist performed three songs, with a bit of banter from the presenters, and some cart-wheeling from Jedward in between. The O2 staged it well with impressive effects including fireworks, and a light screen on stage.

Headliner Lady Gaga didn’t disappoint on either the music or costume front. Entering the stage in her first outfit of a red Madonna-esque cone bra and pants, she stomped around the stage and then took her position at the piano (feet on the stool; bum pointing to the ceiling) for an acoustic rendition of Pokerface.

Teenage demons laid to rest, I left The O2.

Did you go to the Jingle Bell Ball? Tell us which acts you liked best!
