London Theatre Blog: The Hunger Games and 2015 season highlights

In case you hadn’t heard, The Hunger Games – that’s right, you heard me – is coming to a purpose-built theatre in London in 2016.

Have we recovered from that news? Good, then I’ll continue. Also heading to London is another production better known as a film – albeit this one features an invisible rabbit as opposed to a teenage battle for survival – Harvey. No dates have officially been announced, but the James Dreyfus-led production is expected in the West End next year.

What do we know specifics about? Well, we know that the Young Vic production of A View From The Bridge, which starred the remarkable Mark Strong alongside rising star Phoebe Fox, proved so popular that it will transfer to the Wyndham’s Theatre next February.

We also know that the Donmar Warehouse production of My Night With Reg, which starred Downton Abbey matinee idol Julian Ovenden (pictured), is pulling off a similar trick and will be seen at the Apollo Theatre in the new year.

Incidentally, that’s the theatre currently playing host to Urinetown The Musical in which, from 1 December, you can see comedian and actor Phill Jupitus playing a tyrannical toilet-owning millionaire bringing a loo-obsessed town to its gingerly crossed knees.

What else? Well 2015 will see the Donmar Warehouse stage election-based play The Vote, which will also be broadcast live across the UK on the night of the general election. And Shakespeare’s Globe will focus on Justice And Mercy next summer, so expect productions of As You Like It, King John, Measure For Measure, Richard II and, of course, The Merchant Of Venice.
