<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/katescannell/">Katesca</a>&#8216;s vibrant photograph really brings out the gorgeous colours of the fabric wrapped around the Baobab Tree sculpture next to <a href="http://www.visitlondon.com/attractions/detail/279311-hayward-gallery">The Hayward</a> gallery on the Southbank. </p>
<p>The work is called Under the Baobab and is part of the <a href="http://www.visitlondon.com/events/detail/24869998-festival-of-the-world-at-southbank-centre">Festival of the World</a> celebrations. </p>
<p>The baobab tree is sometimes known as the tree of life because it provides shelter, fruit, bark for making clothes and ropes and store water. The fabric was chosen by the the textile design MA students from Chelsea College of Art and Design and represents their communities of origin. </p>
<p>There&#8217;s so many exciting things going on in London this summer, bring your camera and add your photos to the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/visitlondon/pool/">Visit London Flickr pool</a>. </p>

<p>Have you met Susan? This giant straw fox is spending this summer perched by Waterloo Bridge at the <a href="http://www.visitlondon.com/attractions/detail/433221">Southbank Centre</a> and was designed by <a href="http://www.piratetechnics.com/">Pirate Techinics</a>. The urban fox was named Susan by the young daughter of the Southbank Centre&#8217;s Creative Director of Learning and Participation.</p>
<p>We love this picture of the fox by <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/firegoat22/">firegoat22</a> so much, we&#8217;ve also made it our favourite London photo of the week over on the <a href="http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/visitlondon">Visit London Facebook page</a>.</p>

<p>Boris Johnson announced the next two commissions for the <a href="http://www.london.gov.uk/fourthplinth/">Fourth Plinth</a> in Trafalgar Square this morning.</p>
<p>Artists <a href="http://www.london.gov.uk/fourthplinth/idea/powerless-structures-fig-101-elmgreen-dragset/">Elmgreen &amp; Dragset</a> and <a href="http://www.london.gov.uk/fourthplinth/idea/hahn-cock-katharina-fritsch">Katharina Fritsch</a> are the winners for 2012 and 2013.</p>
<p>Elmgreen &amp; Dragset&#8217;s <strong>Powerless Structures, Fig 101</strong> is a bronze sculpture of a boy on a rocking horse.</p>
<p>This morning, the artists explained their sculpture is not about victory or defeat. &#8220;It&#8217;s about play, being part of a game. It&#8217;s maybe not about winning or losing. It&#8217;s easy for us to stand up here today and say it&#8217;s not all about winning, but&#8230; We wanted to put something among all the admirals and generals in <a href="http://www.visitlondon.com/attractions/detail/283774">Trafalgar Square</a> that would perhaps be mocking, perhaps change people&#8217;s perspectives.&#8221;</p>
<p>The second winner announced this morning is Katharina Fritsch&#8217;s <strong>Hahn / Cock</strong>; a giant, surrealist cockerel in bright blue.</p>
<p>Katharina described her sculpture as a &#8220;wake up call&#8221; and seemed happy to allow different interpretations of her work from the Mayor and others. (Boris suggested it might have something to do with <a href="http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/index.html">Tottenham Hotspur</a>, before talking about the idea that this very French symbol will, at least, be looked down on by Nelson from the centre of the square.)</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s a rather hastily taken, wobbly video of this morning&#8217;s annoucement, where you can see / hear more from the Mayor:</p>
<p><object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="539" height="328" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="src" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/eYVRUH-dPkg?fs=1&amp;hl=en_GB&amp;rel=0&amp;color1=0xe1600f&amp;color2=0xfebd01" /><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="539" height="328" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/eYVRUH-dPkg?fs=1&amp;hl=en_GB&amp;rel=0&amp;color1=0xe1600f&amp;color2=0xfebd01" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always"></embed></object></p>
<blockquote><p>So, what do you think? Are these worthy winners? Were there others in the shortlist (there&#8217;s a <a href="http://blog.visitlondon.com/2010/08/visit-london-poll-which-is-your-favourite-shortlisted-artwork-for-the-fourth-plinth/">reminder here</a>) that you would&#8217;ve preferred to see on the Fourth Plinth? Let us know in the comments below.</p></blockquote>
