The Christmas tradition for smooching under the plant is thought to have originated in Scandinavia, where the plant is a symbol of peace and harmony. London Heathrow has modernised the tradition with 50 feet of steel tubing and 25 stainless steel balls.
At 10ft by 8ft, this is the world’s largest piece of mistletoe. It took designers and engineers three weeks to construct and it weighs 43kg.
It’s hoped more than 3 million Christmas kisses will take place under the mistletoe over the coming month. Ahh. To ensure no one misses out on the festive tradition, giant mistletoe is also being installed in Heathrow’s other terminals.
We think it’s a lovely idea. We’re wondering who you’d like to meet under the mistletoe this Christmas?
