Tennis fever has gripped London and the 2012 Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships are in full swing.

We love this archive footage, from British Pathe, of Wimbledon finals since 1910. There’s lots to spot in this film including the outfits, the rackets, the change from black and white to technicolour and the Queen Mother!

Wimbledon’s in full swing, and Britain’s Andy Murray will take on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the men’s quarterfinals today.

If you’re not lucky enough to have Wimbledon tickets, you can still queue for one of the 6000 Ground Admission tickets available each morning.

These let you into the Wimbledon grounds, so you can soak up the atmosphere and watch all the tennis action on a big screen from Henman Hill (otherwise known as Murray Mount).

Look who’s been enjoying the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum this morning!

It’s none other than the gorgeous Rafa Nadal, currently the world’s No1 tennis player.

We think he looks like he’s having a great time! Let’s hope this smile stays on his face throughout this year’s Wimbledon Tennis Championships…

We’re happy about this morning’s news that Andy Murray has qualified for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.

The 22-year-old (still so young!) joins four-time ATP World Tour Champion Roger Federer (he retained the title between 2004-07) and 2008 ATP World Tour Champion Rafael Nadal as the first three singles players to qualify for the elite eight-man event.

Murray says, “Obviously with it being in the UK this year, it’s big for me.

“I think qualifying is a goal for all the players. I think it shows you’ve had a very solid year and I look forward to playing. This year the Tour is very tough and it’s tight at the top.”

Murray is hoping for a good battle for the No 1 spot in the world.

The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is the world’s biggest-ever indoor tennis event. It features the world’s top 8 singles players and 8 doubles teams fighting it out to be crowned 2009 ATP World Tour Champions.

With a capacity of 250,000, fewer than 20,000 tickets remain on sale across the group sessions at The O2, which will host the eight-day tournament.

Tennis fans can start ticking off the days until the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals hit London: as of this morning, there are just 100 days to go!

A quarter of a million fans will watch the world’s top 8 tennis players fight for the chance to be crowned ATP World Tour Champion at The O2 in London this November.

Players secure their places in that top 8 over the course of a year, picking up points from more than 60 tournaments, including the four Grand Slams. The eight singles players and doubles teams who finish with the most points at the end of the season compete in the season finale for a total prize of $5 million.

So, how are Andy Murray’s points looking?

The British favourite is close to joining all-time Grand Slam title-leader Roger Federer and reigning ATP World Tour Champion Rafael Nadal at the finals after his dramatic achievements at Wimbledon last month.

In fact, Murray could become the highest-ranked Briton in the Open Era if he plays well at the Rogers Cup in Montreal this week.  He’ll get the points if he:

1. reaches the semi-finals, and Nadal loses before the fourth round
2. reaches the final, and Nadal loses in the semi-finals or earlier, or
3. wins the fourth ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title of his career

Other stars likely to be joining Murray at The O2 in November are

1. Novak Djokovic, winner of last year’s event in Shanghai
2. Wimbledon finalist Andy Roddick
3. last week’s Washington titlist Juan Martin del Potro

And if you’re excited about that news, what are the chances of getting a ticket like?

Well, out of a capacity of 250,000, only 20,000 tickets remain on sale to tennis fans across the group sessions.

Phil Anderton, Chairman of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, says: “The response from fans has been absolutely fantastic and is a reflection of the great appetite that exists for world-class tennis in the UK.

“With most sessions already sold out, there are only a few tickets remaining for the group sessions. We look forward to welcoming the world’s best players and the fans to what promises to be a spectacular sporting event.”

If you didn’t get tickets for the real thing, head over to pan-Asian restaurant Gilgamesh in Camden, where they’ve created a Wimbledon-themed Players’ Lounge.

There’s Astroturf on the floor, waitresses dressed in tennis outfits, tennis ball decor, and screens showing all the Wimbledon action.

On the menu, you’ll find creamy Murray Martinis and strawberry and cream wantons.

Gilgamesh isn’t the only venue getting into tennis this year. Check out Bluebird’s courtyard, decorated with Astroturf and giant tennis balls, or enjoy a Royal Wimbledon cocktail at The Crescent Champagne Bar.
