Take a trip to Masterpiece London for a fabulous few hours of viewing possibly the finest antiques collection in the world.

This six-day event in its first year showcases art and luxury goods of all kinds. Held at the former Chelsea Barracks, minutes from Sloane Square, this is a real treat for all. Even those of us who are not millionaires will love browsing the original art from a Renoir to a Picasso to a gorgeous Warhol Marilyn Monroe piece. There are ancient sculptures including a Roman marble torso of Hercules from the 1st Century AD (price upon request) and stunning pieces of vintage jewellery.

Cars on display include the most stunning Bugatti (priced at a cool million) and other classic cars such as the 1933 Alfa Romeo, valued at £4.7 million.

One of the strangest yet most fascinating pieces is a giant gold clock with a huge bug attached to it that moves as if it’s in charge of turning the device. This is a £2 million “Chronophage” clock and highlights the wide range of artefacts on display.

The pieces are stunning and the staff are all knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful – even though they probably guessed that we would not be purchasing the £4.8 million Canaletto!

To add to the entertainment, there’s a selection of pop-up bars and restaurants from the finest venues in London, including Le Caprice, The Ivy and Harry’s Bar. Enjoying a glass of finest champagne after the fair is the perfect way to end the perfect fine day!

Tickets are priced at £20.00 and can be booked here - but be quick, Masterpiece’s final day is tomorrow (29 June).

If you can’t make it to Masterpiece, you can visit one of the other London Art Fairs that are on throughout the year.

The launch was attended by members of the press, chefs, restaurateurs and PRs. We spotted Observer food critic Jay Rayner, TV’s William Sitwell and Silvena Rowe, Tom Parker-Bowles, Wahaca’s Thomasina Miers, Pierre Koffmann, John Nugent from Green & Fortune and Nick Jones, proprietor of Soho House and Shoreditch House.

Fay Maschler, festival chair and co-founder, spoke about Festival Menus, which will be at the heart of London Restaurant Festival 2010. Festival Menus give each participating restaurant the chance to show off their signature dishes at a special, fixed price.

Rosie Boycott, chair of the London Food Board, said London Restaurant Festival had the full support of both herself and London Mayor Boris Johnson.

“This is a great festival, encouraging Londoners to dine out and support their local restaurants and also maybe discover local gems which they may have right on their doorsteps. The real bonus is that there is a menu for every pocket.”

Festival director Simon Davis announced American Express as the headline sponsor for this year’s festival. He went on to outline five big festival events for 2010 so far:
