Rob Eagle’s video highlights some of the brilliant free things to do in London, from the British Museum to the Hunterian Museum.

The film won the Raindance Film Festival award in UCL’s London for Free competition.

We’ve seen all kinds of things in the park near our offices (sheep, cricketers, blow-up tents, a cycling mayor), but this particular Potter’s Field stunt on Monday had us intrigued.

Hilton built a beach, in the snow, to draw attention to an illness they call Vacationitis – sufferers struggle to switch off from work even when they’re on holiday (is that you?!). Hilton’s study of 2,000 workers in the UK found more than half of those surveyed continue to take work calls while they were on holiday; and one in five people in the UK haven’t taken a holiday in more than two years.

With all the amazing things to do in London, I think it’s time you took a day off work to enjoy this brilliant city very soon. Perhaps not in your swimsuit in the snow, though.

Last week a steam train chuffed into London’s Baker Street station as part of preparations for the Tube’s 150th  anniversary celebrations that are kicking off in January 2013. This BBC London newsreel explains some of the history of London’s underground as well as showing footage of the first steam train on the network for a good long while.

Here’s a lovely video from British Airways, showing two of their cabin crew, Mark and Lucy, enjoying a perfect day in London. 

From London Heathrow Terminal 5, to the Houses of Parliament, Primrose Hill, Camden Passage, The Langham, Hamleys, Fortnum & Mason, Natural History Museum Ice Rink, and Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, they certainly enjoy a busy day. (I’m just not sure about that picnic, considering today’s temperatures are hovering around the 3°C mark.)

This week, I wanted to share this great video from TheWorldCities, which gives some of London’s most famous locations a “toy-town” makeover.

Look out for Liverpool Street Station, the Houses of Parliament, Boris Bikes, Earl’s Court Station, Millenium Bridge, Charing Cross, Monument, Covent Garden, Piccadilly Circus and Tower Bridge as you’ve never seen them before!

A slightly nutty London video for this Friday lunchtime. While it’s not all factually correct (we’re fairly sure Johnson was writing to his friend Boswell when he made his famous “tired of London” quote; and the musical Cats is long gone), there’s certainly some fun renditions of London’s popular landmarks.

Look out for the British Museum; the London Eye; Natural History Museum; St Paul’s Cathedral; Buckingham Palace; Changing the Guard; Science Museum; V&A; and, of course, Big Ben.

It’s almost time for the Lord Mayor’s Show in London and, for the curators at the Museum of London, this means they’ve got quite a complicated task on their hands.
